Bibliography - The House of Niccolo
Compared to the Lymond Chronicles the situation with the House of Niccolo is much simpler. They were published in the UK by Michel Joseph / Penguin and in the US by Knopf and Vintage.
Michael Joseph editions are either hardback which were published first (and are more common) or trade paperbacks (which are usually the same format as the hardbacks but with soft covers), while Penguins are always paperbacks.
In the US, Knopf editions are hardbacks and Vintage are paperbacks.
Book collectors will already know that you need to be very sure of what you're buying if you haven't seen it; but normal readers who just want to complete a set should take careful note of the following when buying second-hand.
Sellers often make mistakes in descriptions! Often they use the original publication date of the book rather than the publication date of the edition they are selling, they frequently quote the overall publishing group rather than the specific imprint, and often use a stock image of the book cover rather than the actual one. So it's all too easy to be misled about which edition is actually for sale. Please beware!
