Poll – Which is your favouite House of Niccolo book?

Another little poll – this time switching series to Niccolo. I’ve seen many discussions of which Lymond book is most liked, but not so many on which one people like best in the House of Niccolo.

This time you can only choose one.

Unfortunately an update to the poll plug-in on 25th March 2024 has broken it, so the results can’t currently be displayed. If we get a further update it may be reinstated or if I get time I’ll check the database to see if I can pull the data out manually.

Thanks for taking part.

  1. CR for the content about Julius and Anna. Julius is – always was from the moment we meet him – my favourite character in HoN. I read the series for him. I was never convinced by DD’s determination to make him a villain and I was seriously annoyed with the IMO unlikely scene in which N, never IMO a deft swordsman but intead so large and strong he just laid about him, and DD showing Julius scared of N. No way was tha possible. I was always interested in swordsmanship though not the clumpy ghastly monstrosities of N’s time but the elegant swords of the 17th Century in France and I learned some fencing. So my final impression of HoN was – er, no, it doesn’t work for me other than N’s interest in the business world.

But DD had her way of doing things and I often disagreed with her including in LC. She said, IIRC, she wrote in such a way that we would get more than one option for solutions so that we would “argue for ever” over her books. So my option for Julius is not what N tells us he “as always” “knows everything” but no, N cannot always be right. He was out to con us or he conned himself.

I was also very intrigued by Anna/Adelina. I wasn’t so much interested in N’s part in CR. So my fav book is half of CR.

(My fav work by DD is KH by the way)

  2. Hi Ros, long time since we last spoke. Hope you’re well.
The Polls were unfortunately broken by a WordPress update a few months ago and I’ve never had time to find a fix for them. I really should have moved the site to new hosting before now but work and house renovations have got in the way. I may have to dig into the database and extract thee results manually and display them as plain text.
Interesting that you like CR – that’s not a common choice. It’s a few years since I last read it so I will have to try and do so fairly soon.
